St. John the Wonderworker of Shanghai and San Francisco

This past Saturday we celebrated the memory of St. John (Maximovitch), exemplary hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, ascetic, man of prayer, tireless pastor, protector of exiles, father of orphans, and defender of the Orthodox Faith. Here’s a sermon about St. John that I delivered in 2023 at St. Ieronymos in Hillsdale:

One misstatement: St. John of Kronstadt was, of course, not a hierarch but a priest. What I meant to say was that both men were pastors.
